It’s almost time for the Third Annual ATown Teen Video Contest In just a couple of months, the Regent Theatre will once again screen the entries and host the ATown Awards Ceremony for this Showcase of youth filmmaking in Arlington. But of course it can’t happen without the films themselves, and that’s where YOU come in! Please help us get the word out about this opportunity to any young filmmakers you know, and encourage them to submit their work. The deadline for submissions is February 22, 2016. There is no submission fee for the first entry, so that is no obstacle. We look forward to seeing your talents on display! For full contest details please visit www.atownteenvideo.org Sponsored by Data Collaborative, Arlington Community Media, Inc., Arlington Center for the Arts, and the Regent Theatre. On an unusually balmy Saturday evening in early December, ACMi’s Studio A was the site for First Lights festivities that included: to open the holiday season! Scores of Arlington’s youngest residents showed up to hear Santa read “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” and they brought their parents along to join in the fun! A children’s chorus from the nearby Park Ave Congregational Church led the crowd through a series of beloved holiday chestnuts, cookies and hot cider were provided by host ACMi, and winners of a raffle sponsored by participating local businesses were selected. The event drew residents from all over Arlington (and beyond) to the Heights for an evening marked by high spirits and a palpable sense of community, leaving many with the feeling that a new holiday tradition had been born… If you missed this one, please join us next year!...Read More

On an early February evening, in between a week full of snowstorms, Arlington Community Media, Inc. (ACMi) threw open its doors to host the Arlington Public News (APN) Open House. The gathering was another in an on going series of ACMI events hosted by APN to share with the community the success of its volunteer news team. The open house was also an open call to the community, inviting Arlingtonians to take action and participate in producing news and other types of programming. The APN staff welcomed more than 25 guests, including at least five new faces. “We’re here because we got the post card in the mail,” said one father who was in attendance with his high school aged daughter. “She’s interested in news and video and we thought this would be a good way to learn some skills and get exposed to all that goes in to making a program. “It’s a great resource, especially for high school students preparing for college.” That was music to Executive Director Norm McLeod’s ears. “ACMi is, in fact, a resource for the community. Our goal is to provide Arlingtonians with an outlet for their creativity as well as the issues and topics that are of interest to them.” One of those main outlets is the APN broadcast, anchored by Arlington residents Michelle Marino and Paul Wehrlin. The entire APN team...Read More
