Resource Fridays: Creative Commons Music Downloads

March 30, 2012

One of the most crucial parts of a video production is sound, but there is often the concern of copyright. Well fortunately, there are a few resources out there for music and sound, and since Resource Fridays has been on a hiatus the past couple of weeks, we’re going to give you a few to go check out.

CCMixter:
CCMixter is a creative commons initiative where you can browse, download and use a whole buch of songs created and uploaded by users. As is typical with the Creative Commons, you will still likely need to give credit where credit is due, and it is a little more difficult to use songs in comercial projects, but fortunatly in Community Media, that is not often our concern.

Check out http://dig.ccmixter.org for the best browsing.

Audionautix:
Like CCMixter, Audionautix is licenced under Creative Commons and can be used for a variety of projects. Started by musician Jason Shaw, Audionautix give you songs and sounds broken out by genre.

Check out http://audionautix.com/

Sample Swap:
Sample Swap is a free resource for sharing music and samples across the Internet, but within the site is a section dedicated to Music available under the Creative Commons.
