A single book to cover all that we know about all the life forms on earth! That is the ambition of the Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) project drawing together many of the most distinguished scientific institutions in the world. Leading scientists explain how this enormous enterprise is designed. The work already accessible online (www.eol.org) builds on the classifications of Linnaeus and integrates new scientific insights, and is well on its way to covering the two million species already identified by scientists
