The Arlington Advocate newspaper has been around for more than 150 years. But if you subscribe to it, you may have noticed a curious change to its name-plate.

The paper’s owner, Gannett of McLean, Virginia, changed the name to: “The Advocate and Star.” It’s the result of a merger of the printed word between the towns of Arlington and now Winchester.

Bob Sprague, the editor of, talked to ACMi News about Gannett’s take on “hyper-local” news coverage, and how Arlington residents seem to have become estranged from what was once a credible and compelling weekly newspaper.
