Town Day Recap
Saturday, September 20 was no exception to our run of gorgeous weather, and the thousands of cheerful area residents who attended were clearly basking in it. Our own small legion of ACMi staff, interns, and volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day, as always, but we also took the time to fully appreciate doing so under such magnificent conditions. We spoke to scores of visitors to our booth, welcomed dozens to record their thoughts at the podcast station we set up, and launched a number of “street teams” out into the crowds to interview some of the many organizations with booths strewn the length of Mass Ave. There are a number of us with 10 or more Town Days under our belts, and we frankly couldn’t remember a better combination of great energy and high spirits.
As always, ACMi broadcast the festivities live, and is airing the entire event in three separate installments, in case you want to catch what you missed, or relive what you experienced!
Community Media Day
Community media provides local producers, journalists, community members, media professionals, nonprofit organizations, schools, and government agencies with the resources to produce television programming and have their voices heard at little to no cost, building our community through media. ACMi has been able to do so through the support of local government, grants, and the hard work of community members like yourself.
Come join us for our Community Media Day Open House this upcoming Monday from 11am-5pm! Observe the live production of Pop! Astronomy from 11am-2pm and meet the new staff throughout the day. We hope to see you all there!
Halloween Heights Stroll
ACMi will participating in this year’s Halloween Heights Stroll on Friday, October 24th from 3pm to 5pm. We will also be hosting some fun Halloween-themed green screen activities in our studio for the event.
Come in your best costume and enjoy the Halloween festivities!
Legislative Updates
Arlington is represented in the Massachusetts State House by three people – State Senator Cindy Friedman, and Representatives Dave Rogers and Sean Garballey. All have been in their posts for a good while now, and they regularly come into the ACMi studio to share the latest news about policy-making, legislation, and specific initiatives that affect Arlington and its residents. We recently spoke with two of the three, and are currently working to schedule a visit with Sean Garballey. Senator Friedman and Rep Rogers addressed such topics as free access to community college for Massachusetts residents, cannabis dispensaries and the revenues they generate, data privacy, access to abortion, and the intense challenges of legislating in an iconic blue state under the current federal government. Both Rogers and Friedman talk clearly and candidly about these subjects and more, which leads to truly content-rich conversations. Check them out and see for yourself!
Other Notable ACMi Productions
The latest edition in the Menotomy Concert Series at Town Hall took place on Friday, September 26. The program, “With Each Breath,” featured a variety of music highlighting flute and piano, including a World Premiere from composer John Kusiak.
On September 28, ACMi live-streamed a Book Launch at the Armenian Cultural Foundation celebrating the publication of “A German General and the Armenian Genocide,” by Muriel Mirak-Weissbach. It’s a notable addition to the body of work shedding light on this dark episode in 20th-century history.
