“Compose-Her” will be a virtual pre-recorded program available on Facebook Live with trios and duos, featuring music by women composers. These will include Iva Bittova, Eden Macadam-Somer, Missy Mazzoli, Caroline Shaw, and Mazz Swift. You can sample some of Craft Ensemble’s music at craftensemble.org. The event is part of the Friends Reading Room Music Series (though sadly not in the Reading Room at present). The Craft Ensemble comprises a core string quartet of Colleen Brannen and Amy Sims on violin, violist Amelia Hollander Ames, and Velleda Miragias on cello. They are all busy freelancers in the Boston area, with engagements at A Far Cry, Boston Baroque, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Boston Philharmonic, Handel & Haydn Society, Odyssey Opera, Orchestra of Indian Hill, the Portland Symphony, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic, as well as frequent “away” projects.
