Snap Shot: Town Meeting Draft Warrant

Arlington Public News obtained a draft of warrant articles town meeting members will take up in April. Of the 60 potential articles several address housing construction.

The proposed regulations range from requiring contractors to tell neighbors when construction will start and stop, to limiting the amount of noise generated by their projects.

The articles were proposed by a residential study group formed to help implement the town’s master plan. The group is comprised of residents and town officials looking at ways to ease the impact of new construction on established neighborhoods.

Several citizen proposed warrant articles could also affect how business is done in town. One proposal would ban the sale or distribution of plastic bags at stores, restaurants and other retail establishments. And another takes aim at a medical marijuana dispensary currently approved for a water street complex that also houses a pediatric office. The state mandates a 500 foot buffer zone surrounding medical marijuana dispensaries, which the town interpreted to include only schools. The proposed by-law would add pediatric offices, dance schools and playgrounds to the buffer zone.

A public hearing on articles dealing with zoning and construction will be held march 13th at 6pm at town hall. APN will continue to bring you updates on the proposed warrant articles.
