The Ancient Library that is Inventing the Future

The original ancient library of Alexandria, founded in 288 B.C., housed hundreds of thousands of scrolls by some of the finest intellectuals and writers of the ancient world. Scientists, mathematicians, and writers came to Alexandria from all cultures to learn, collaborate, and create new knowledge.

A new library was launched in 2002, near the site of the ancient library. The new library continues to serve as a major library, cultural, and education center for the entire world.  The new library’s goal is to serve as the World’s window on Egypt, Egypt’s window on the world, a leading institution of the digital age, a center for dialogue and knowledge.
