The Arlington High School Boys Ultimate Frisbee Team – the PUMAHS – are National Champions! Finishing with only one loss in the entire season, the PUMAHS was dominant throughout on their road to the national title.
Senior captains Cameron Levine, Theo Strauss, and Luke Hedlund, along with teammate Zach Phan and Coach John “Trey” Rice visited the ACMi studio to share their thoughts on their thrilling accomplishment. Their enthusiasm for the sport was palpable as they talked about growing up playing Ultimate Frisbee and the unique demands and challenges of the game, including playing multiple positions.
Cameron and Theo are heading to UMass Amherst, where they plan to play with that university’s storied Men’s Ultimate Frisbee Team – ZooDisc. For his part, Cameron expects to continue to relish demolishing opposing teams, while Theo looks forward to bringing his trademark defensive intensity to the next level. And Luke can’t wait to bring his particular talent for getting open in the endzone to Purdue University’s men’s team.
While the team will be saying goodbye to their senior players, Zach, a rising senior and Ultimate player for six years, stands ready to carry forward the team’s legacy of success. And Coach Rice himself is confident that the program he and fellow Coach Simon Stone have built over the last ten years has a good chance of vying for another national championship in the near future.
