ACMi is delighted to announce our Spring Workshop series!

Classes will be held Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30 pm at Studio A at 85 Park Ave.

Basic courses are free for members, and $50 for non-members (includes membership fee). Advanced courses are $50 for members, and $100 for non-members (includes membership fee).

Orientation / Member Meet & Greet (free to all)

March 5 – 6:30-8:30 pm

7:30-8:30 Meet & Greet

Learn how you can be involved in community-produced television. Join us for this free orientation, meet the staff, and learn everything you need to know to get started at ACMi. We’ll show you how to become a member, receive training, use our equipment, produce TV shows, or help others produce theirs. Get engaged in the world of digital communications – and learn a marketable skill in the process! Member Meet & Greet immediately following orientation – old and new members welcome!

Basic Camera

March 12 – 6:30-8:30 pm

Free for members/non-members $50

Learn the basic functions of ACMi’s professional Sony Z90 camcorders. Develop an understanding of basic camera skills, composition, and movement through hands-on practice. This class certifies members to check out our Sony camcorders. Taught by: Katie Chang, Production Manager.

Advanced Camera

March 19 – 6:30-8:30 pm

$50 members/$100 non-members

Get an in-depth look at ACMi’s Sony Z90 camcorder and Sony FX30 camera. with this advanced camera class. Participants will learn how to make detailed manual adjustments using internal camera settings.

Prerequisite: Basic Camera class or prior experience.

Taught by: Jasper Hamilton, Youth Coordinator and independent filmmaker / cinematographer

Interviewing and Writing for Broadcast News

April 2 – 6:30-8:30 pm

$50 members/$100 non-members

Learn effective interviewing techniques and how to write a news report. This course is presented by James Milan, who produces and hosts ACMi Public Affairs programming; and award-winning ACMi News Director Jeff Barnd, who has more than 30 years’ experience as an anchor and reporter at major commercial broadcast stations.

Basic Video Editing (Premiere/Resolve)

April 9 – 6:30-8:30 pm

Free for members/non-members $50

Attendees will work with basic concepts and features in video editing programs to run through a typical series of steps for creating, editing, and fine-tuning a video. The concepts we’ll cover will include: the user interface, creating dynamic titles, capturing, video and audio transitions, and exporting your project for airing on ACMi channels. Both Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve will be utilized. Taught by: Katie Chang, Production Manager, and Jasper Hamilton, Youth Coordinator.

Color Grading

April 16 – 6:30-8:30 pm

$50 members/$100 non-members

Color grading is a post-production process done to change the look of a video through manipulating contrast, color, saturation, detail, black level, and white balance. Get started with color grading in DaVinci Resolve.

Three-Point Lighting and More

April 23 – 6:30-8:30 pm

$50 members/$100 non-members

Learn more than just the basic three-point lighting technique! Practice using different ACMi lights to create and communicate the look and mood you want to your audience.

Taught by: Jasper Hamilton, Youth Coordinator and independent filmmaker/ cinematographer.

Intro to Studio Production

(course offered through the Arlington Center for the Arts)

April 30-June 4 – 6:30-9 pm

ACMi is offering a comprehensive introduction to portable studio production through the Arlington Center for the Arts. Please see their Spring catalog (on page 22) for more information and to register.


Member Networking Party

June 11 – 6:30-8:30 pm

Free for members/non-members $50

Come with your elevator pitch to meet other like-minded, creative individuals. Find collaborators and crew for your next video production and get inspired! Light refreshments will be provided.
