Mayor Michael Curtatone’s refusal to remove a Black Lives Matter banner from Somerville’s City Hall building recently sparked simultaneous demonstrations in that city. Police gathered in front of City Hall to protest the displaying of the banner, while at the same time BLM sympathizers gathered in Union Square to voice their support for the mayor’s decision.
