Wide Angle: Episode 42 – Daring Democracy Pt. 2

Winston Churchill is quoted as having said: “Democracy is the worst form of government, except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.” Peter’s guests disagree. They think that democracy–a government of, by and for the people–is actually pretty good, “noble” even. And something worth working for.
Joining Peter to talk about our recent experiment with democracy are two guests: Frances Moore Lappe is the author of nineteen books, including Diet for a Small Planet, which the Smithsonian National Museum of American History described as “one of the most influential political tracts of the times.” She has also co-founded three national organizations, most recently Small Planet Institute, a collaborative network for research and popular education aimed at bringing democracy to life.
Adam Eichen is a writer, researcher and political organizer. He is a Democracy Fellow at Small Planet Institute, is on the board of directors of Democracy Matters, and was the deputy communications director for the 2016 Democracy Spring march on Washington.
In this part, Lappe and Eichen illuminate the growing pro-democracy movement in this country via numerous examples—both across the US and in our own Commonwealth—of people and organizations that might yet give us reason to hope…and join in.
