Arlington High School’s Music Technology program and the Arlington Performing Arts Department bring you Sonic Voyages XI.
Sonic Voyages is the AHS Music Technology program’s annual concert, showcasing the work students have created throughout the first semester. This year, students have come from an incredible diversity of musical backgrounds, resulting in a similarly incredible diversity of music in this show tonight.
Despite their differences, every piece in this concert is related by its use of technology. Whether live or prerecorded with a video, whether acoustic or electronic or somewhere in between, the student composer used modern music technology somewhere in the creative process. The most ubiquitous software in the curriculum is Reaper, an audio editing software used for recording and synthesis. Students also use MuseScore, a digital sheet music creation program; even live acoustic pieces created in this class were planned out and rehearsed using sheet music made in MuseScore. No piece is without connection to modern musical technology.
As our Sonic Voyage enters a new decade, it is important to think about how the arts will change in response to changes in technology. This selection of student work explores just that; we hope you enjoy Sonic Voyages XI.
