Arlington Farmers’ Market Builds A Sense of Community

The idea of setting up the Arlington farmers’ market in the parking lot behind the Jefferson Cutter house started with a resident of an elder housing. She took her idea to Oakes Plimpton who was involved in other farmers’ markets and knew many farmers in the area. Now in its 19th year the market has 20 vendors ranging from fresh fruits and vegetables to fresh eggs and fish from local waters.

This weekly event draws many Arlington residents and local restaurant owners to the market where they can stock up on fresh produce and catch up with friends and neighbors. The drought this summer and the deep freeze in mid February resulted in many farmers losing some of their products. The market is open every Wednesday at 2 p.m. and goes until the last Wednesday of October.
