Volunteers from the Arlington Human Rights Commission celebrated Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Newton this week, for the Indigenous Peoples’ Day ceremonial celebration at Albemarle Field. This was the largest Indigenous Peoples’ Day event in this area. It was an outdoor, family-oriented celebration of indigenous culture, art, and history. History that goes back centuries before Christopher Columbus was born.
This inaugural yearly event featured over 40 artists, performers, speakers, vendors, and community organizations. And was open to all residents of neighboring towns including Arlington. This colorful and meaningful event made time for celebrating ancient cultures and all the tribal nations from Canada to South America.
