As many as 60 Arlington residents gathered at the Arlington Senior Center Thursday, June 16 for the second planning meeting on Phase II of the Envision Arlington Project. The engineering firm of Vanasse Hangen Bustlin (VHB) presented their recommendations to the town and provided an opportunity for the general public to give feedback on those conceptual designs.
The goal of the project is to reconstruct Massachusetts Avenue through Arlington Center from Pond Lane to Mill Street with a focus on four key locations–Broadway Plaza, Whittemore Park, the Civic Center, and a typical commercial block.
Since the Spring, the town has been gathering public input on topics such as:
• What makes Arlington Center great?
• What streetscape improvements will make Arlington Center a better place to
live, work, and visit?
• What features need to be improved within the sidewalks and public areas
such as Broadway Plaza and the streetscape in front of Town Hall?
VHB will take the feedback into consideration to create the finalized plan, which will be presented at a third public meeting in September.
The Town of Arlington is matching local funds with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, administered by the Department of Planning & Community Development, for these planning activities.
