School Debt Exclusion: All Questions

APN interviewed four well-informed citizens about the three debt exclusion questions on the ballot for the Special Town Election to be held on June 14th. If you don’t want to watch the hour long overview take a look at the shorter segments focusing on each question.

Question 1: Renovation to the Thompson Elementary and Gibbs School

Jane Morgan, a Stratton Elementary School parent and member of Build Arlington’s Future, talks to ACMi’s Brenda Mahoney about why it is vitally important to fund projects at the Thompson Elementary School and the Ottoson Middle School to address ballooning student enrollment.

Question 2: Fund feasibility study and design for Arlington High School

Kirsi Allison-Ampe, a three-term School Committee, walks us through the reasons behind the need to rebuild or renovate Arlington High School, as well as the process of doing so. She explains how Question 2, which asks Arlington taxpayers to fund a Feasibility Study for a rebuild, is a preliminary step leading to the much larger debt exclusion that will be required to fund the rebuild itself.

Question 3: Pay Arlington’s share for construction of new Minuteman Building

Arlington Selectman Dan Dunn makes the case for why Arlington residents should vote to fund our town’s share of the proposed rebuild of Minuteman Vocational Technical High School.

Charlie Foskett, an institution on Arlington’s Finance Committee for many years, explains why he does not support the rebuild of Minuteman Vocational Technical High School as it is currently configured, arguing that the apparent benefits do not justify the significant financial burden it would impose on Arlington taxpayers.
