Wide Angle: Episode 16 – Military Recruiting of Children on School Campuses

Most parents are well-aware that, for their 14 to 18 year old children, “long-term decisions” are those dealing with the weekend, or maybe the prom and the like. So when military recruiters visit Arlington High School and invite our teens to make the potentially life-and-death decision to join the military, parents should take notice.
Joining Peter to discuss the military recruitment of schoolchildren are two guests: Seth Kershner is a writer, researcher and co-author of the book, Counter-Recruitment and the Campaign to Demilitarize Public Schools. Ray Ajemian served in the Army from 1965 to 1967, during the Vietnam War, as an artillery instructor at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He became involved in the organization, Veterans for Peace, after the invasion of Iraq and has since done counter-recruitment work around his community.
