Wide Angle: Episode 49 – Utopia

Merriam-Webster defines the word ‘utopia’ in two ways: first, as a place of ideal perfection, especially in laws, government and social conditions; and second, as an impractical scheme for social improvement. While this episode’s guest has no doubt received his share of jibes poking at his impracticality, he has spent much of his professional life collecting data and building a framework for a utopia of the first definition.
Joining Peter to discuss such a “better society” is Professor Martin Schoenhals, an anthropologist and Traveling Faculty member of the School for International Training. He has previously taught at Columbia, Johns Hopkins and the University of Pennsylvania, and is the author of three books, most recently Work, Love, and Learning in Utopia: Equality Reimagined.
