In our next segment, news producer Peter Bermudes speaks with Winfred Rembert about the inspiration behind the stories and images of his leather carvings. Rembert, a 66 year old African-American, grew up in Cuthbert, Georgia. He was jailed after attending a civil rights demonstration, survived an attempted lynching, and ultimately served seven years on Georgia chain gangs. Rembert’s story is featured in Vivian Ducat’s documentary All Me: The Life & Times of Winfred Rembert. The Arlington International Film Festival runs from October 23rd to the 27th.
