Tens of thousands could not attend due to the ongoing pandemic, and it was a much smaller crowd than usual who were present for the socially distant ceremony. Thousands of National Guard troops were in attendance, along with the youngest poet laureate to deliver a speech at a presidential inauguration. In the face of these remarkable circumstances, President Biden delivered a speech with national unity as its focus.
