The all-important spawning population of the river herring has just recently been tallied, and according to the state of Massachusetts, it was another robust season in the Arlington area.
River herring are a crucial part of the food chain. Scientists say sizable populations are a credible indicator of a healthy ecosystem!
But as Jeff Barnd reports, not all spawning areas have recorded positive numbers in the Bay State. And according to an Arlington-based group that monitors our water-ways, the river herring remains a threatened species.
