ACMi News: November 29, 2019

Sure, there’s the turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie, but you can’t deny football is a huge part of this cornucopia of holiday bliss.

Tonight a celebration of 100 years of the NFL! We’ll talk to Upton Bell, the former New England Patriots general manager about how his mother, Frances, very well may have saved the NFL from self destructing year’s ago. And why she belongs in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Upton’s father Bert Bell , was the NFL’s second commissioner. How did an extremely irritating train ride to Minnesota save not only the professional football league but other major professional sports as well? We’ll tell you about passenger Bert Bell’s eureka moment and how his forward-thinking idea is still in use today.

Keeping track of all the NFL teams on any given Sunday is no easy task. Especially in the 40’s and 50’s. Thank goodness for the then state-of-the-art bakelite rotary dial telephone. It put out many potential fires that could have easily unraveled the league. It even was used to take on a former vice president of the U.S. who’s young pre-Watergate break-in face may ring a bell.

All that on our special Thanksgiving edition of ACMi News.
