This may go down as one of the stormiest, coldest winters in New England. As we deal with yet another storm, it’s a good thing we have the Olympics to divert our attention.
Here at ACMi it sometimes feels like we are hosting our own Olympic games! An incredible amount of programming is being produced by our very active and dedicated membership base. Our main facility at 85 Park Ave. is constantly busy between shows being shot in the studio, editors working on pieces that have already been recorded, and news teams checking out our mobile equipment so they can hit the streets of Arlington to produce stories for Arlington Public News. Our Studio B facility, on Mass Ave. across from the high school, is filled with youthful energy and creativity from Arlington High School student volunteers.
Below are just a few samples the current ACMi activities and programming either on air or in production. If you haven’t been in for a while (or ever!), stop by for a visit, bring a friend, and see what you’ve been missing! We’d love to reconnect with you. Pitch a new show idea, resuscitate one that you’ve had on hold for a while, or ask one of the ACMi staff members how you can get involved in one of the many projects that are currently in production. We provide training and support from story and project development to how to use our equipment to post production and editing.

Arlington Public News Open House (APN): APN just held a very successful open house. More than 25 people were in attendance to hear from news team members about production and to learn about what opportunities exist on the APN team. Black History Month: In honor of Black History Month,  APN  is airing a series of segments with historians and professors to highlight important moments in our country’s history and discuss how remembering the past is vital to understanding our contemporary world.Â
Teen Video Contest: If you’re an Arlington teen (or if you know one!), don’t’ forget about the A-Town Teen Video Contest. With a $500 first place cash prize on the line what better incentive to get creative and participate in this fun film making event. All submissions will be shown and judged at the Regent Theater on March 21 at 7:00 p.m. Read complete details here.
Town Talk: ACMi producer Joel Rothstein’s new show explores the different departments of Arlington’s town government. Meet the important people behind the scenes in Arlington. The first episode premiered Sunday, February 2nd. Joel sat down with Mike Rademacher, the director of Arlington’s Public Works, to learn all about snow removal in Arlington. If you missed it, check it out here. In next month’s episode, Joel will meet with Arlington’s Finance Committee chair, Al Tosti, to talk about everything Arlington residents need to know about how our town’s money gets spent.
Coming Soon: ACMi production teams are working on many programs including one about the life and work of artist Winfred Rembert, part two in a series about adolescents (watch part one here), and a couple of shows which are both timely and seasonal–LINKS and SnowCrew, about two programs that provide shoveling services to elders and the disabled.
School Committee: If you’d like to catch up on the most recent School Committee meeting, click here. The next one will air live on 2.27.14 at 7 p.m. (Comcast channel 22, RCN channel 15, and Verizon channel 26).
Town Elections: Election season is upon us. Watch for upcoming candidate profiles, beginning to air on the government channel in March.
