Wide Angle: Episode 15 – Two Views Into the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s

“The past is never dead. It’s not even past,” a Faulkner character famously said. No issue in American life reveals the profound truth of that quote more than race, and no decade in our history so deeply shaped our modern conception of that notion, as well as the direction of a movement around it, as the 1960s. In this encore presentation, Peter combines two previously separate interviews that jointly help bring the Civil Rights movement of that era into sharper focus:

In the first half, Arlington resident and author Robert McKersie joins Peter to discuss his book, A Decisive Decade: An Insider’s View of the Chicago Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, and the experience that gave rise to those reflections. In part two, Tufts professor Peniel Joseph talks about his book Stokely: A Life and the history of the Black Power movement.
