Video Copilot is a group of designers/editors who create plugins for Adobe After Effects. They Also produce a series of video tutorials of how to implement certain effects and use different techniques.
Specifically, they host a series of videos for the very basic beginner, called After Effects Basic Training. In this set of tutorials, instructor Andrew Kramer breaks it down to even the most basic level for explaining the interface, and builds from there. This is probably the best starting point, if you want to learn After Effects, and have never used it before.
